Chief Minister Siddaramaiah initially cautioned Cabinet colleague Shivanand Patil against making insensitive or casual remarks about farmers in response to his recent statement.
The chief minister stated on social media platform X that it is important to talk respectfully about farmers because they are the ones who grow our food. We have to be careful not to say anything indiscreet or in jest. Everyone has an obligation to strictly abide by this code of conduct.
It's crucial to speak with respect about farmers – our food providers. We must avoid making casual comments that could be perceived as disrespectful. Adhering strictly to this code of conduct is a responsibility for all.

Given that he comes from a farming family, Agriculture Minister Shivanand Patil cannot have intended to offend farmers. He has joked around with the nearby farmers on a few occasions. But these can be misinterpreted and offensive if they are directed at the whole farming community. This is not appropriate,” he declared.
BJP flayed
“BJP leaders are waiting for occasions like this to stir up controversy over Shivanand Patil’s remarks because they have done nothing to improve farmer welfare and are inherently anti-farmers. Farmers who asked for loan waivers were met with sarcastic remarks from BJP leaders that they lacked a note-printing machine; when they asked for seeds and fertilizer, they were shot dead. In light of this, how can leaders of the BJP legitimately criticize the Congress party for moral reasons? Siddaramaiah enquired. “The pro-farmer programs our government has implemented in the last six months are evident in our love and respect for farmers,” he continued.
Pro-farmer measures
“Even though the Union government did not provide adequate relief for the drought-affected farmers in the state, we have given Rs 2,000 to each farming family,” Siddaramaiah stated, highlighting the pro-farmer schemes. The interest on medium- and long-term loans obtained from cooperative banks will not be charged, as per our decision. At a cost of Rs 100 crore, we have started the Krishi Bhagya Scheme in 106 taluks spread across 24 districts of the state. We are supplying agricultural pump sets with three-phase electricity for a duration of seven hours. He declared, “We have made the decision to regularize Bagar Hukum lands that have been farmed for 15 years.” “We have bravely chosen to legalize four lakh agricultural pump sets that were previously connected to an illegal electrical system.
