Bengaluru: A visibly shaken stunt choreographer for the climax scene of Kannada film Masti Gudi Ravi Verma said that the tragic incident where two actors, Anil and Uday, drowned while filming an action scene happened in a few seconds and despite having safety measures like boats, swimmers and stuntmen, they couldn’t save them.

The top stunt director who has earlier worked with Tollywood and Bollywood actors like Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan said that the duo knew to swim but had never tried this kind of stunt before. They only wanted to do it because they wanted to work with Duniya Vijay whom they considered as their guru, said Verma.

Anil and Uday drowned even before the boat reached the spot. Vijay also jumped along with them. He was calm and composed and managed to swim, but the other two couldn’t reach the boat. This was a scene that the script demanded and we went with it, added Verma.

Tragedy struck when two actors, Anil and Uday drowned while shooting for Masti Gudi after they jumped off a helicopter into the Tippagondanahalli reservoir, 35km west of Bengaluru, on Monday afternoon. A motorboat stationed on the banks to pull the actors out of the water developed a last-minute snag and remained ashore, resulting in the tragedy.

Duniya Vijay, hero of the movie Maasti Gudi, who also made the jump with the other two, survived as he was rescued in the nick of time by a local who rushed to his help in a coracle.
