WB and Maha record their 2nd victories in Nagesh Trophy

Belgavi, Karnataka: A brilliant century by Nasiruddin Ahamed helped West Bengal to their second consecutive victory by beating Goa in a close game by 9 runs in the Nagesh Trophy National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Blind being played here at the KSCA Ground. Maharashtra also secured their second victory by overcoming Uttar Pradesh by 8 wickets.

In the first match, Goa won the toss and send West Bengal to bat. Openers Shankar Mahatao and Nasiruddin Ahamed started well and scored a partnership of 97 runs with Shankar scoring 39 runs and being the first batter to be dismissed. Nasiruddin anchored the innings to the end and completed his century of 71 balls remaining unbeaten. Bengal scored 197/3 in their 20 overs. In reply Goa batters Aftaf Patel and Sandip Ghuge scored half centuries but could not take their team to the target. In the end thy fell short by 9 runs. 

The day witnessed the presence of eminent guests joining the presentation party. The guest congratulated the players and handed over the prizes. Post-match presentation was held in the presence of KSCA officials and well-wishers of Cricket for the Blind.

 

In the other match of the group, Maharashtra won the toss and elected to field. They bowled tight lines restricting the Uttar Pradesh batters and giving no scoring opportunities. Openers Chandan and Sandeep Kumar scored 81 runs for the first wicket in 9 overs before Sandeep was dismissed. The next batters could not maintain the scoring momentum as Uttar Pradesh were restricted to 167/7 in 20 overs. Chasing 168 runs, Maharashtra openers took away the match from their opponents with a 124 run first wicket partnership. Anil Belsare remained unbeaten on 80 and Pandurang Jambe scored 47 runs. Maharashtra reached the target in 17.1 overs for the loss of two wickets.
