In a remarkable show of support, Virat Kohli reached out to congratulate Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) following their triumphant victory in the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) final. After a nail-biting match where RCB clinched their inaugural WPL title by defeating Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, ending a 16-year wait for a trophy, Kohli’s heartfelt gesture captured attention across social media platforms.

Celebrating the monumental win, Kohli initiated a video call to express his congratulations to the captain of the RCB women’s team. Joined by other team members, the jubilant atmosphere was palpable as Kohli even showcased his dance moves during the call. Adding to the moment’s charm, Ellyse Perry’s enthusiastic shoutout to Kohli, “V for Virat!” further highlighted the camaraderie.

RCB’s journey to the WPL final marked a significant milestone, especially after their past attempts in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where they reached finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Kohli’s personal connection to these endeavors, having been part of all three squads and captaining the 2016 team, amplified his joy at witnessing the women’s team clinch the coveted title. Taking to Instagram, Kohli shared his elation with a story captioned “Superwomen.”

As Kohli transitions back to the cricket field, joining the RCB men’s side for IPL 2024 preparations, anticipation mounts for the upcoming season. Having last played during the home T20I series against Afghanistan before missing the England Test series due to the birth of his second child, Kohli now gears up for the IPL amidst speculation about his T20 World Cup inclusion. While rumors swirl about his potential omission from the Indian squad due to concerns over his strike rate, Kohli remains focused on utilizing IPL 2024 as a platform to hone his skills ahead of the ICC event.

The excitement builds as RCB is set to kick off the season against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
