Vijayapura: In a shocking incident, a married woman, who had come with her family to work as a sugarcane harvester to earn a living, fell down while plucking tamarind fruit from a tree to be used for cooking at Dhavalagi in Muddebihal Taluk of District on Wednesday November 3.
The deceased has been identified as Paramavva Mallappa Kuri (24) of Geddalamari Village in Hunachagi Taluk of Yadgir District. She is survived by her husband and two young children.
Her family worked as labourers in the team that had come to harvest sugarcane in the fields of Dhavalgi.
After harvesting at Dhavalgi, the labourers, along with sheep and children, had set out on a double trolley tractor to harvest sugarcane at Kanyal’s farm in Basavana Bagewadi Taluk. Paramavva saw a tamarind tree on the road next to the Government Hostel in the village and tried to pluck the tamarind that had grown in it. The trolley was filled with materials such as firewood, wood, etc. making it easier for her to pick up the tamarind. The vehicle moved forward as she was about to pick up the tamarind from the trunk of the tree. She died on the spot after being hit by the wheel of the rear trolley when she suddenly slipped and fell on to the ground.
