Bengaluru: Smugglers take to very smart means to smuggle commodities and in yet another case, they left the officers shocked.
Intelligence officers were stunned to find out that smugglers used 280 pumps to transport 108 kgs of gold through the Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports!
Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials got wise to the matter during their regular check-up of the goods transport section of all the three airports on December 19 and 21.
They found 33kg gold and 88 pumps in KIAL of Bengaluru, 50kg gold and 122 pumps at the Delhi airport and 25kg gold and 70 pumps at the Mumbai airport.
One of the AIU officials said, “On December 19, the cargo section received a parcel of 84 pumps. On a hunch, we checked one pump and found a solid piece of gold painted with grease. When we checked all the pumps we found 33 kgs of gold and seized it.”
“The parcel had arrived at the Mumbai airport in the name of Sooryavamshi of Mumbai station limits. We shared his details and the matter of the gold seized at KIAL with all the airports. On this basis, Delhi and Mumbai ATU officers also checked similar parcels at the cargo section on December 21 and found solid gold pieces,” he said.
Now, AIU officials, with the help of local police, are on the look out for Sooryavamshi. He had sent the parcel to Ravi of Kempegowda Nagara. Police said that Ravi locked his room and escaped from the spot. However, by the ‘Tower dump’ investigation of the cops, it was found that Ravi waited for three hours near KIAL and returned on December 19.
