Venoor police have apprehended five individuals accused of assaulting police officers on duty during an incident on March 9. The arrested suspects, Mahesh (28), Suresh (33), Gautham (21), Arun (29), and Suresh (28), have been remanded in judicial custody.
The altercation unfolded as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramaiah Hegde, aged 57, and other personnel were patrolling in the early hours of March 9. Encountering a group of youths by the Guruvayanakere-Naravi road, they discovered broken soda bottles scattered on the pavement. Upon questioning, Mahesh verbally abused the police and allegedly attempted to murder ASI Ramaiah Hegde. The group reportedly issued death threats and obstructed the officers from performing their duties.
As a consequence of the incident, Ramaiah Hegde has been admitted to the Government Hospital at Belthangady. Venoor police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and an ongoing investigation is in progress. The arrests underscore the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety of police personnel on duty.
