Mangalore-Origin Student Receives ‘Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence’

Saanvi Hemachandra Rao, a seventh-grade student at Delhi Private School in Sharjah, has been honored with the esteemed ‘Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence’ in recognition of her outstanding achievements and commitment to education and community service. The award was presented by His Excellency Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammed Al-Qasimi, the respected Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, at a ceremony held on March 5 at the Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre.

The ceremony, attended by Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, deputy ruler of Sharjah, celebrated deserving student winners who each received a cash prize of Dhs 20,000. Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, expressed gratitude to Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi for his unwavering support in advancing education and culture in the emirate.

The latest cycle of the Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence drew 1151 participants, and after rigorous screening, 486 contestants competed across various categories, with 41 emerging as champions of excellence, creativity, and innovation. Among them, Saanvi Hemachandra Rao, a native of Mangalore and the only Mangalorean girl honored under the ‘Distinguished Student Category’ for the 2023-24 academic year.

Saanvi, currently residing in the UAE with her parents Hemachandra Rao and Sarika Rao, showcased remarkable talents and interests from an early age. Her diverse accomplishments include proficiency in Bharatanatyam, numerous accolades in drawing competitions, recognition for creative writing skills, and leadership roles in environmental and sustainability organizations. Saanvi has also been appointed as one of the Country Captains of UAE by Thirst Foundation CEO Mina Guli for global marathons supporting water conservation and climate action.

These achievements reflect Saanvi’s dedication to academics, extracurricular activities, and community service, exemplifying the values of excellence and service that the Sharjah Award for Educational Excellence aims to celebrate. Her success also highlights the crucial support and guidance she receives from her family, including her grandparents, the late Shree J Shekar Anchan and Shobhavathi Anchan, and the late Shree Honnappa Rao and Leelavathi Rao.
