Belthangady: A car travelling to Belthangady from Mumbai, met with a fatal accident on the Hubli –Dharwad highway killing two people on the spot and seriously injuring another. They were all travelling to Peradi, Belthangady to attend a relative’s wedding on Friday. With the tragic incident, the wedding has been cancelled.
The marriage of Sujith Shetty, son of Peradi Bhandasale Sanjeeva Shetty was decided to be held in Padmavathi Kalyanamantapa, Moodbidri on Friday, December 28. Anil T Shetty (65), a businessman in Mumbai and his wife Kushala Shetty (55) were travelling from Mumbai to Belthangady by car with their son Shailendra to attend the wedding of uncle Sanjeeva Shetty’s son Sujith Shetty.
Shetty and family were to reach Belthangady on Wednesday to attend the wedding celebrations starting from Mehendi on Wednesday evening. The mishap occurred on the Hubli-Dharwad on Wednesday. The car collided with a tanker parked on the roadside and both Anil Shetty and wife Kushala Shetty died on the spot. Son Shailendra, who sustained serious head injuries, is being treated in the hospital. Shailendra was driving the car during the accident.
Sujith’s family cancelled the wedding and are now preparing for the last rites of their relatives. The relatives are hoping to conduct the funeral on Thursday when they receive the dead bodies from the authorities.
