Mangaluru: After Newskarnataka had reported about the contamination of the well water in Kanekere, a lot of attention was drawn to the region. Minister U T Khader had also visited the area last week to inspect the wells.
The locals had suspected that a leakage at a nearby petrol bunk was the cause of the contamination, and now, the results of an inspection by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOC) officials have confirmed their claims.
Initial inspections of the petrol bunk were inconclusive as they were unable to trace any leakages. However, during another inspection carried out at the petrol bunk on Saturday, November 17, the officials replaced the diesel and petrol in the tanks with water and found that the water levels had dipped, proving that there was indeed a leakage. When the officials used a compressor to test if the water levels had dipped due to evaporation, they found that a leak was the cause for the fall in the level of water.
The IOC Officials have been asked to resolve the issue after filing file a report about their findings.
