Sullia: The work on laying of drainage pipe had started 13 years ago here but even today, it is not of any use to the people, said KPCC Secretary M Venkappa Gowda.

“The wastewater flows through the rainwater drains instead of the drainage pipes due to substandard work. Wastewater flowing through the rainwater drains is polluting the Kandadka river which is a tributary of Payaswini river and the people in the low lying areas of Sullia drink the water from Payaswini river”, he said.

“The town administration of Sullia is claiming that the drainage project is completed but it is not of any use to the public. The Rs 2.87 Crore spent on the project is a waste”, opined Venkappa Gowda.

The Congress secretary said that the water cleaning unit in Jayanagara was in ruins and urged the current town administration to disclose how the money was spent.

Lakhs of rupees were spent on the waste treatment plant in Kalcharpe and in reality, the site contains only a building, Gowda alleged.
