Mangaluru: Pro-Hindu organisations, condemning the proposed programme of Islamic scholar and preacher Dr Zakir Naik in the city on Jan 2, have said that the government will be responsible for any untoward incidents taking place during the course of his event.

Hindu Jagruthi Vedike Convener Vijay Kumar said that Dr Naik is due to visit the city on January 2 and during his visit if situation goes out of control then the government is to be blamed. In this regard, the Vedike will stage a stir on December 22.

He said that they have informed the DC, the IGP and the Commissioner of Police about the stir and urged them to deny permission to the visit to Dr Naik as this may lead to disruption of peace.

“Dr Naik has made derogatory references to Hindu gods and religion during his speeches. His television-Peace TV, which is banned by government of India is telecast in the state. Dr Naik has been banned by many countries like Britain, Canada and Malaysia for his controversial speeches. There are several cases filed against him in the district”, he informed adding that they would take up a legal battle in case the district administration permits the programme.

The DC has assured that anyone who goes against law will face stringent action.

Akhila Bharath Hindu Mahasabha member Dharmendra, Ananda Adyar from Shriram Sene and others were present.
