Mandya: Every individual living in the society knows what toilets are meant for. But can anyone imagine living for years together in a toilet?

Yes, this is the situation in which a woman and her two daughters are living in Srirangapatana.

Nirmala, a resident of Ganjam in Srirangapatana, along with her two daughters are residing in a toilet from past eight years. This has been their place of eating, sleeping, cooking and all other activities. The situation here is such that one has to stand and form a ‘protective wall’ when the others are changing clothes.

As her husband is no more, Nirmala, with great difficulty, tried to lay a foundation stone to build a compact house. Since then, a chain of problems began. The district administration has not even a made an effort to assess the situation. She has visited several offices in this regard but to no avail.

According to sources, the officials concerned have not even shown any courtesy to help the three. The Women and Child Welfare department too has neglected them.
