Warriors succumb as Tigers roar

Mysuru: An eye catching 26-ball 43 by No. 5 batsman Chethan John William paved the way for Hubli Tigers’ convincing 24-run victory over Mysuru Warrirors in the Karbonn Smart KPL 2015 here on Tuesday.

The right hander was instrumental in the Tigers reaching a defendable 155 from when they were reduced to 87 for 4 and the 101 for 5 in the 16th over.

Four overs into the chase the local outfit began losing wickets and the parade from and to the dressing room continued as the team lost momentum and also fell short of the required run rate. Skipper CM Gautam dug himself to score a 33-ball 30 while J Suchith was the only player who showed some purpose when he came to bat.

The left hander slammed 27 from 16 balls, but could not replicate the innings of Monday and Mysuru Warriors managed 131 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.

Winning the toss, Hubli Tigers began well through their openers Mohammad Taha (37) and KB Pawan (36). However from being 75 without loss, the team slipped and lost four wickets for the addition of just 12 runs.

While Taha and Pawan kept the crowd entertained, it was Chethan who propped up the Hubli total. Along with Dikshanshu Negi (18), Chethan added 46 runs for the sixth wicket before a mix-up saw him being run out.

“It was a good wicket to bat on and the bowlers bowled in my range. I am happy that I could contribute to my team’s victory. I think we are picking up momentum at the right time and hope to continue this streak in our next game tomorrow,” said Chethan.

Hubli now have seven points, while Mysuru are stuck on two.
