Kabul: In the mountainous northeastern region of Afghanistan, a plane has reportedly crashed, according to a statement from a provincial government official on Sunday. The incident occurred in Badakhshan province, which shares borders with China, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. However, the exact location of the crash remains unknown.
Zabihullah Amiri, the head of the provincial information department, informed AFP that the plane had indeed crashed, but details regarding the specific site were still pending. Emergency response teams have been dispatched, but as of now, they have not reached the crash site.
“We were alerted to the incident by local residents in the morning,” Amiri stated, refraining from providing additional information at this time.
It is noteworthy that Badakhshan province is characterized by the imposing Hindu Kush mountain range, with Afghanistan’s highest peak, Mount Noshaq, towering at an elevation of 7,492 meters (24,580 feet). The challenging terrain poses additional difficulties in swiftly locating and accessing the crash site.
