Two-Day Rapid Chess Kudremukh Trophy Concludes at KIOCL

Mangaluru: KIOCL Limited, a Govt. of India Enterprise, conducted a two-day All India Open FIDE Rating Rapid Chess Tournament-2024, named “6th Kudremukh Trophy” on 6 and 7 January at Nehru Bhavan, KIOCL Township, Kavoor, Mangalore.

This National Chess Tournament consisted of 185 trophies with cash prizes of worth Rs.3,00,000. The valedictory ceremony was held at the twilight hour on 7 January. This opportunity showcased the creativity of brilliant aspirants from all over India.

The National level Chess Tournament was inaugurated by the DC of Dakshina Kannada District Mullai Muhilan MP, IAS and KIOCL Chairman Cum Managing Director, T.Saminathan, on 6 January by lighting the Lamp, unveiling the Trophy and moving the Pawns on the Demo Chess Board.

The Tournament was conducted smoothly under the guidance of the International ArbiterBH Vasanth and Deputy Arbiters Sakashath, Umanath Kapu, Saundarya, Babu Poojary and Nayan Karakal. There were a total of 376 participants from all over India, especially Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Tamilnadu, Telangana, West Bengal and one NRI from Canada with the youngest player being 4 years from Shimoga and eldest being 83 years old from Chattisgarh. The event was a witness for the 3 International Masters and 3 Fide Masters. Prizes were distributed for the categories in Open Level, and under 5,6,7, 8, 9,10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 years in both male and female categories.

The proud First prize winner in the Open category was International Master Sharan Rao from Dakshina Kannada and 2nd prize was bagged by Fidee Master NRI from Canada Aaron Reeve Mendes, and Lad Mandar Pradip from Goa bagged the 3rd prize. Prizes were distributed for the categories in Open Level, under 5,6,7, 8, 9,10, 11, 13, 14 and 15 years in both male and female categories. Prizes were distributed for Dakshina Kannada player categories and special prizes were distributed for the youngest players boys/ girls, physically challenged and veteran players.

The Valedictory Ceremony was organised on 7 January. The Chief Guest was the Managing Director, MRPL, Sanjay Varma. The KIOCL Chairman cum Managing Director T. Saminathan, Director(Production and Projects) GV Kiran, President, KIOCL Chess Tournament Committee and Chief General Manager I/c Mangaluru RD Prabhu, DKCA President Ramesh Khota were present.

chess-kudremukh-trophyThe Chief General Manager (Production)  P.Palani welcomed the audience, Senior Manager(HR and A) and Chess Tournament Co-ordinator Chethan K Shetty, briefed the audience on the activities of the tournament and  Manager (Process Control) Sudhir presented the Vote of Thanks.

The Tournament got applause from all the senior participants and the parents of junior participants for the ambience and hospitality of the KIOCL Chess Tournament Committee. They have also expressed that they are awaiting to participate in such laudable Tournaments and conveyed heartfelt thanks for the nice arrangements and hospitality made for this National Level Tournament at KIOCL Ltd., Mangalore, which is highly commendable and needs to be encouraged.
