Bengaluru: With the election heat intensifying day by day in the state, the Congress and the BJP are engaged in a new battle over the lingayat community issue.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai took to Twitter to hit back at KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar.

“Shivakumar ji, you have spoken about Lingayat dam. You are not aware of how hard it is. You are under the illusion of breaking it down. Your Government was there in power in 2018 and it had not been able to break it. What can you do now? First of all, there is no water in your Congress pit. Think about it and we have taken your statement as a challenge. On May 13, we will know how much water is in Lingayat dam. Your statement has exposed yet another conspiracy to divide Lingayat religion.”

While former CM Jagadish Shettar and Former Deputy CM Laxman Savadi have quit the BJP and joined the Congress, the Congress has been consistently alleging that Lingayat leaders, including Yediyurappa, are being sidelined in the BJP.
