He received his Test cap from India’s head coach Rahul Dravid just before the toss on Friday, stepping in for Jasprit Bumrah who was rested for workload management. Praised by Graeme Swann for his ability to consistently hit the top of off stump, Akash Deep boasts a first-class average of 23.58, having taken 103 wickets in 30 matches. He has also showcased his talent in the IPL playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Preparing diligently for his debut, Akash Deep impressed during practice sessions leading up to the Test match, drawing admiration from the Indian team’s batting coach Vikram Rathour. Rathour highlighted Akash Deep’s skillset, emphasizing his decent pace, good line, and overall promising performance in domestic cricket.

In summary, Akash Deep’s inclusion in the Indian Test team signifies the culmination of his consistent performances in domestic cricket and serves as a testament to his potential as a valuable asset for the national side.
