Mangaluru: DYFI activists, with the help of the public, removed the gates of the bridge connecting Harekala to Adyar on NH-75 and made it traffic free. The bridge was completed four months ago and it was said that two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers will be allowed to ply from April 1. It could not be cleared due to non-receipt of an order from the Minor Irrigation Department and a stay order from the Court.
Meanwhile, on Monday April 3 the officials themselves came to Harekala with pumpkins but offered to open the bridge to traffic but withdrew due to the Code of Conduct.
The DYFI Unit in Harekala had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commisioner. Earlier in the day, DYFI leaders and activists gathered at the spot and, with the help of the public, carved the gates installed on both sides of the bridge and opened them for public transport.
