Nainital: Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, who has conquered the Indian market with his Ayurveda and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods(FMCG) has now been directed by the Uttarakhand High Court to share his profits with the local producers and farmers.
The High Court, in a first-of-its-kind order rejected a petition of Divya Pharmacy against the Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board (UBB) and uphelding the provisions of fair and equitable benefit-sharing as provided under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali products selling Divya brands have a profit of Rs. 421 crore from which the court has ordered to share Rs. 2 crore towards the farmers and local producers from which the pharmacy buys the raw materials.
Earlier the pharmacy company had criticized the UBB saying that they had no authority to order the pharmacy. However, the court has upheld the treaty between the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and India.
Based on this the court has said that the UBB had every right to pass orders.
