New Delhi: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that there had been no talks on a pan-India NRC — a citizenship verification drive that has so far been implemented only in Assam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has claimed otherwise.
Rahul, who posted a video of Matia detention camp in Assam, alleged that the PM was lying about the such camps. The Matia detention centre is located in Goalpora district of Assan and the construction works is nearing completion.
It is said that the Matia detention centre is being built at a cost of over Rs 46 crore and will have capacity to hold 3,000 detainees. It will house 15 four-storey buildings: 13 for men and two for women.
Recently, the PM had held Congress responsible for spreading rumours that the Muslims will be sent to detention centres. He had said that no talks on pan-India NRC had been held so far.
However, posting video of Matia Centres on Twitter on Thursday, Rahul said, “The RSS’s prime minister is lying to Bharat Mata.”
