Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday launched the Congress government’s ambitious Grila Lakshmi Yojana. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar were present at the function held at Vidhana Soudha’s banquet hall. Women eligible for the scheme can start applying today.
After August 15 and 20, women will start getting Rs 2,000 per month and registration for the scheme will continue for one year.
More than 1.1 crore women in Karnataka will benefit from this scheme and the government has earmarked Rs 18,000 crore for the scheme, Congress said. Grilakshmi Yojana is India’s largest women-oriented direct cash transfer scheme. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said the scheme would help fight price hikes.
