Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police apprehended Kannada film producer Virendra Babu here on Saturday, for his involvement in raping a woman and attempting to extort money from her through the threat of releasing a video of the crime.
As per the police, Virendra Babu had demanded a sum of Rs 15 lakhs from the victim and used the video as leverage to coerce her into payment.
The incident occurred in 2021.
In her complaint, the victim disclosed that she had to sell her gold jewelry to meet the accused’s demands.
However, on July 30, the accused contacted her once more and issued threats.
Furthermore, the victim claimed that he forced her into his car and menaced her with a firearm.
The complaint has been filed on charges of rape and life-threatening threats.
The Kodigehalli police have also lodged cases against the associates of the accused in connection with the case.
